Miscreants shot dead a former leader of Awami League and the accused in the murder case in Shiromani Bazar of Khanjahan Ali police station in Khulna. The incident took place behind the Linda Clinic in Shiromani Bazar at around two o’clock on Friday. Police recovered two bullets from the spot.
The deceased is Anshar Uddin (60), a resident of Lakhohati village in nearby Dighlia upazila and former cultural secretary of upazila Awami League. He is accused in the murder case of Zakir Hossain, the former chairman of Barakpur Union Parishad in Dighlia. He was a candidate for the post of chairman in the by-election held in November last year.
According to the police, there are seven cases against the deceased in different police stations. After the chairman’s murder case, he lived in Shiromani area along with his family.
Police and residents of the area said that Anshar Uddin went to the mosque behind Shiromani Linda Clinic from his rented house to offer Friday prayers. He was returning from the mosque to his rented house after two o’clock in the afternoon. After going some distance, some miscreants fired four or five bullets at him. At this time three bullets hit his body. He was killed on the spot. On receiving information, the police recovered his body and sent it to Khulna Medical College morgue for post-mortem.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Khanjahan Ali police station. Kamal Hossain told Prothom Alo that he was absconding after the murder of Barakpur Union Chairman Zakir last year. After getting bail, he lived on rent in Shiromani area. Although he was not at home for several days. This morning he came to Shiromani’s house.
OC Kamal Hossain also said that there are three marks on the body of the deceased. They are believed to be pistol or revolver bullet marks. Apart from this, two bullets were recovered from the spot. Everything is being checked with CCTV cameras around. As he is the accused in the case of murder. There are seven cases against him. For that reason, it is initially believed that this killing happened due to previous enmity. He said that the case is being prepared in this incident.
