Crufts 2023 update- Qualifications and Groups From Kennel Club

Following the news of the cancellation of Crufts 2021, meetings have been taking place regarding the impact of the pandemic on Crufts 2022.

The Kennel Club Crufts Committee has reviewed the qualification entry for Crufts 2023 and has agreed that 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in Novice and Graduate classes should be added to qualification status for championship show wins where breeds have separate classifications.

Including shows that have already taken place.

The qualification period for Crufts 2023 is from 8 January 2021 until 09 January 2023 inclusive, however, those that were placed first at Crufts 2020 will also qualify for Crufts 2023.

For the full qualification criteria, frequently asked questions on the criteria, and further information regarding Crufts please visit the Crufts website.

Tom Mather, Crufts Chairman, said: “Due to the ongoing situation with Covid-19, and the issue where many Crufts qualifying shows have been unable to take place, it was felt by the Crufts Committee that more opportunity for people to qualify need to be addressed.

With the addition of the above classes to the criteria list, and with the hope that shows will start up again in the near future, it will provide our dog showing community with an increased opportunity to qualify for Crufts 2023.”

The committee would like to also confirm that the group days for Crufts 2023 remain the same:

Thursday 10 March – Working and Pastoral

Friday 11 March – Terrier and Hound

Saturday 12 March – Utility and Toy

FAQ For Crufts 2022 Qualifications

Organizers Of the Show

  1. Our schedule has been published and entries are still open however we did not schedule a novice or graduate, can we add them now?
Yes, regulations have been relaxed to allow you to add either or both of these classes, you must email the Breed Shows Team (The Kennel Club) requesting permission and the changes advertised in the canine press and as widely as possible.
  2. Our schedule has been published and entries have closed, however, we did not schedule a novice or graduate, can we add them now?
No, unfortunately as entries have closed no modifications to the schedule can be made.
  3. Can an exhibitor transfer into novice or graduate now these classes are qualifiers?
If entries have not closed, exhibitors may transfer to the appropriate class. If entries have closed, dogs must not be transferred unless the transfer meets Regulation F(1)8.l.(2).
  4. Where do we add these classes to the classification?
Classes should be added in the correct sequential order as per regulation F(A) where possible, to allow these to appear in the catalog correctly and for judges to judge in the usual order.

We would suggest discussing the best way to do this with your printer. Examples of how you may do this include; Adding the class/classes in the correct numerical order with the inclusion of (a), (b) eg. 23 yearlings (D), 23a novice (D)

Add the class/classes onto the end of your classification for entries, the judge’s book and the judging must follow the standard order of classes, the only difference being the class numbers will not be in sequence.
  5. Do we need to amend the number of classes detailed on our license application form?
Yes, please email Breed Shows Team (The Kennel Club) specifying the show date and what you wish to amend when requesting permission to schedule these additional classes.
  6. Should rosettes and prize cards be offered?
These classes should be treated as usual.
